Course learning outcomes
  1. Characterize fundamental issues of telecommunication and computer networks
  2. Solve simple numerical problems of transmission quality
  3. Build up simple transmission models of telecommunication systems and networks, based on computer simulation
Programme learning outcomes
  1. Basic knowledge in the field of mathematics, physics and engineering and technical sciences; detailed knowldege in the field of electronics and telecommunications including selected issues from electrical engineering, automation and technical information technology.
  2. Ability to use one's knowledge from the area of electrical circuits, electronic circuits, basics of telecommunications systems, data transmission, signal processing, wired and wireless communication as well as non-technical aspects to design, build, commision and test a telecommunication system.
Programme content Development of telecommunications systems. Systematics of telecommunications networks. Telecommunications network topologies. Baseband transmission, band transmission. Parameters of telecommunications systems. Basics of information theory. Standards in telecommunications networks. Layer model of telecommunications network. Local area network technologies. Telecommunications traffic and its basic models. Fundamentals of queuing theory. Global networks. Access networks. Backbone networks. Internet operation.

Course content LECTURE: 1. Basic diagram of the telecommunication system 2. Access and transport networks 3. Fundamentals of digital transmission 4. Functions of transmission systems: source coding, channel coding, modulation 5. ISO-OSI model of telecommunications systems 6. Physical layer of wired systems 7. Physical layer of wireless systems 8. Application layer protocols 9. Transport layer protocols 10. Network layer protocols 11. Data link layer protocols 12. Examples of telecommunications system standards 13. Legal considerations for the design, construction and operation of telecommunications infrastructure LABORATORY: Wireless transmission identification using a spectrum analyzer. Simulation of wireless systems coverage inside buildings. Practical traffic analysis in data communication networks. Analysis of the protocol stack. Analysis and modeling of selected aspects of telecommunication network design.
